The first six months of 2024 have been good ones for the electric vehicle market in Canada. Indeed, if the\u00a0rebate claims<\/a>\u00a0made by dealers on behalf of eligible electric vehicle buyers are anything to go by, the EVs are doing quite well in this country.<\/p>\n

Incentives help, but access to an increasingly attractive recharging network means fewer buyers hesitate to buy an electric vehicle.<\/p>\n

In concrete terms, between January 1 and June 30, 2024, 95,775 claims were made, compared with 45,669 for the same period in 2023. It\u2019s fair to say that the electric vehicle market is still growing in Canada, and that demand is on the rise. Canadians are well on the way to going electric, and it goes without saying that it\u2019s to all our advantage to do so\u00a0while government incentives are still available<\/a>. Subsidies can be a great financial boost for consumers, and as we\u2019ll see in this article, some models are very much in demand.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Tesla dominated the scene, followed by Hyundai and Ford. What\u2019s interesting, however, is to see which rebate-eligible vehicles were the most popular with buyers. So here are 10 electric vehicles that were in high demand in the first 6 months of 2024.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

10 \u2013 Ford F-150 Lightning<\/h2>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Since the start of the year, 894 claims have been made for the all-electric version of the Ford F-150, but what\u2019s interesting is that 498 of these were made in June. It\u2019s important to understand, however, that not all versions of the model are eligible for rebates, so this skews the data a little. The model remains popular with enthusiasts. However, many are looking forward to the next generation, especially with the arrival of the efficient solutions offered by General Motors.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

9 \u2013 Chevrolet Blazer EV<\/h2>\n

\"vus<\/p>\n

In the case of the Chevrolet Blazer EV, we\u2019re talking about 538 claims in June. In May, 784 had been made, for a total of 2101 since the start of the year. Minor glitches marked the Blazer\u2019s debut, but things are picking up for Chevrolet\u2019s rising star.<\/p>\n

8 \u2013 Chevrolet Equinox EV<\/h2>\n

Expect to see this model climb the ranks over the coming months. Launched in May, it\u2019s starting to hit the market with more regularity, and the number of rebate requests reflects this. In May, there were just 18, while in June, there were 564. At the asking price of around $50,000, and with a range of over 500 km in two-wheel drive configuration, many will adopt it. And the most affordable version has yet to be on the market. Another rising star, without a doubt.<\/p>\n

7 \u2013 Kia EV6<\/h2>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s one that\u2019s a regular seller on the market. In June, 623 rebate requests were made for it, for 3131 since January 1. With its hyper-sporty styling and a ride that feels more like a car than an SUV, the EV6 instantly appeals to whoever gets behind the wheel.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

6 \u2013 Ford Mustang Mach-E<\/h2>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

The Ford Mustang Mach-E has been responsible for 5,450 rebate requests this year (until June 30). In June, 720 were accepted. This model has been retouched for 2024, and a new Rally variant has been added to the family. After reliability problems at launch, this product has improved over the past two years, and sales reflect it.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

5 \u2013 Volkswagen ID. 4<\/h2>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

The Volkswagen ID.4 continues to make its way quietly and remains popular due to its format and accessible price. For the moment, it is Volkswagen\u2019s only all-electric entry, a situation that will change towards the end of the year with the arrival of the ID. Buzz.<\/p>\n

4 \u2013 Hyundai Ioniq 5<\/h2>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

As you\u2019d expect, with Tesla and Hyundai dominating the rebate claims, models from these brands are in the top four spots on our list. The Ioniq 5 SUV\u2019s popularity remains very strong. It was responsible for 776 rebate requests in June, compared with 943 in May. Since the start of the year, we\u2019ve had 4128 rebate claims for this vehicle.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

3 \u2013 Hyundai Kona EV<\/h2>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

The Kona EV is a little more popular than the Ioniq 5, mainly because it\u2019s less expensive. The new-generation model is more attractive and offers more comfort and space than its predecessor. In all, we had 811 requests for this model in May, for a total of 4,943 since the start of the year.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

2 \u2013 Tesla Model 3<\/h2>\n

The Tesla Model 3 takes second place. Despite market share losses due to the arrival of several electric vehicles, Tesla still holds some 50% of EV sales. In June, 1,265 requests were made for a Model 3. Since the first day of this year, we\u2019ve had 6643 requests.<\/p>\n

1 \u2013 Tesla Model Y<\/h2>\n

Unsurprisingly, last year\u2019s best-selling vehicle worldwide continues its momentum this year. And it\u2019s far ahead of all the others. In June, there were 2,530 applications, for a total of 16,987 since January 1.<\/p>\n
