Until recently, when it came to best buys in electric vehicles, the models available on the market were so few in number that they were lumped together in a single category.<\/p>\n
Today, with the evolution of the offer over the last few years, no less than 67 models are proposed by manufacturers for 2025, at least at the time of writing. Yes, that\u2019s how far things have come!<\/p>\n
It is now possible to recommend the best vehicles in different categories. Where once it was necessary to consider all electric vehicles together, it\u2019s now relevant to classify them by segment.<\/p>\n
Here are our recommendations and observations, divided into 10 categories.<\/p>\n

This segment will need to grow so that more buyers turn to all-electric models, as this is where we find the most \u00ab\u00a0affordable\u00a0\u00bb proposals. There are two models in this segment, both of which deserve a closer look.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
First, there\u2019s the\u00a0Fiat 500e<\/a>, and then the Mini Cooper SE. Between the two, it\u2019s a question of personal taste, frankly. The former is a tad smaller and offers less range (227 km instead of around 330), but it\u2019s got a nice look. The same goes for the Cooper.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Compact sedans are still a rarity on the market, but the Nissan LEAF and the\u00a0Tesla Model 3<\/a>\u00a0have been there for a while. The former is aging, but nonetheless interesting, provided you keep your expectations in check. As for the Tesla Model 3, which is more relevant thanks to the update it underwent this year, it remains trendy, but with this model, buyers are won over in advance\u2026 or not even interested in finding out more.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n There are several mid-size models on the market. The one that stands out is the\u00a0Hyundai Ioniq 6<\/a>, with its maximum range of 581 km, crisp styling and smooth ride. Forget the electric Genesis G80, however, at least when new, as it\u2019s far too expensive at over $100,000. On the other hand, its depreciation is very high, and you could get a good deal on the used market.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n All-electric compact SUVs are starting to multiply on the market, and that\u2019s only to be expected given that this is the most popular category across the industry, all powertrains considered. The best choice? In our humble opinion, it\u2019s the new Chevrolet Equinox EV that offers up to 513 km of range in front-wheel drive configuration and 459 km with all-wheel drive. Its price is spot-on, its ride is excellent, and its interior design is state-of-the-art.<\/p>\n You could also consider the\u00a0Hyundai Ioniq 5<\/a>, Kia EV6, Toyota bZ4X, Subaru Solterra, Nissan Ariya, VinFast VF 8, and Volkswagen ID.4. <\/p>\n It\u2019s getting crowded in the mid-size SUV segment with the arrival of the\u00a0Chevrolet Blazer EV<\/a>, Honda Prologue and Volkswagen ID. Buzz, but the Kia EV9\u2019s three-row configuration remains attractive for families. Note that the ID. Buzz will also provide three rows, but its starting price of nearly $80,000 will put off many.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The choice is remarkable in the compact luxury SUV category. We like the Cadillac Optiq, whose base price has just been announced at under $60,000. The\u00a0Genesis GV60<\/a>\u00a0is also very nice but a little more expensive, as is the case with the Mercedes-Benz EQB, which is even more pricier. The new Polestar 3 might also interest you, as might the Porsche Macan EV, if your wallet allows it, and high performance is your cup of tea.<\/p>\n In this category, it\u2019s hard to forget the Tesla Model Y, the planet\u2019s best-selling vehicle last year.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Moving up a category, we also find several candidates, including the Cadillac Lyriq, which is quite astonishing. The same goes for the\u00a0Genesis GV70<\/a>, but it comes with a hefty price tag, as does the new Acura ZDX, a cousin of the Chevrolet Blazer. The new Volvo EX90 is interesting, but the price tag is stratospheric, and the model suffered reliability problems at the launch event. The Audi Q6 e-tron is also worth a look, finances permitting; a compelling model. The VinFast VF 9 arrives on the market with many question marks but a price tag that might appeal to some.<\/p>\n In short, you\u2019re spoiled here.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n It\u2019s less restricted in the luxury sedan category, but the Lucid Air and\u00a0Porsche Taycan<\/a>\u00a0are to be noticed. The price can rise quickly here, especially with Porsche. However, the level of refinement and performance is simply staggering.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n We were telling you about future electric pickup trucks not long ago. Five are now battling it out: the Rivian R1T, the Ford F-150 Lightning, the\u00a0Chevrolet Silverado EV<\/a>, the GMC Sierra EV and the Tesla Cybertruck.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Our choice remains the Silverado EV, with its maximum range of 724 kilometres, a convincing argument for all who intend to use this model as a work truck. Everywhere, prices are very high; savings at the pump have to be substantial.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Let\u2019s finish with a segment not often touched on:\u00a0ultra-luxury models<\/a>. For 2025, three products stand out: the Rolls-Royce Spectre sedan, the\u00a0Cadillac Celestiq<\/a>\u00a0and the Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV.<\/p>\n In all three cases, opulence is the order of the day. Everywhere, you\u2019re in for a treat. We confess to being intrigued by the Celestiq, not only because it\u2019s so different, but also because it\u2019s Cadillac\u2019s first foray into ultra-luxury.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The range of electric vehicles has evolved considerably in recent years, from a handful of models to an impressive array of choices for 2025. Whether you\u2019re looking for a small city car, a spacious SUV or even a luxury model, there\u2019s now an option to suit every need and budget. The market is booming, and technological advances are constantly pushing back the boundaries in terms of range, performance and comfort.<\/p>\n The next few years will be crucial for the mass adoption of electric vehicles, and it\u2019s more important than ever to make an informed choice. By choosing the model that\u2019s right for you, you\u2019re not only helping to reduce your carbon footprint, but also contributing to a more sustainable future for everyone.
