10 electric SUVs expected in 2022
2021-10-19 - Updated 2024-02-08
Electric models will multiply on the roads in the coming years, which is great news for everyone who has been waiting for more options before going fully electric.
Some time ago, we presented the 10 most anticipated electric vehicles. Now, we can break it down by category, such as SUVs. This is the most telling sign of the change happening across the industry.
So here's a list of 10 highly anticipated electric SUV models arriving in 2022, with a brief reflection on why each model might be popular.
10 electric SUVs coming in 2022
1. GMC Hummer EV
The GMC Hummer EV was announced a while ago. In fact, it was before the pandemic, during the 2020 Super Bowl presentation. We'll see it debut in 2022 and there's no doubt it will attract attention. Why? Because of its name, its style, and its capabilities, with some versions offering over 500 kilometers of range and an astonishing power of around 1000 horsepower.
2. Toyota bZ4X
Toyota will finally offer an all-electric model, as it is late to the game in this field. The model in question has such a bizarre name that we'll end up remembering it. Expect a format and price similar to that of the RAV4 Prime, to make it eligible for subsidies. We expect something around 400 kilometers of range.
3. Subaru Solterra
The Toyota bZ4X will have a cousin, the Subaru Solterra. We are familiar with the links between the two Japanese firms, and this duo of vehicles will take that relationship to a new level. Which one will be more popular? Expect it to be the Toyota, but be aware that Subaru is making interesting progress in several regions across the country.
4. Mazda MX-30
This one is coming out as we speak, but we couldn't ignore it since it belongs to one of the most popular manufacturers in Quebec. Two things catch the attention in its case: its efficiency, as it is interesting to drive, but also its low range. At 161 kilometers, it simply can't keep up, especially since the model is as expensive as competitors that offer two to three times the range. A quick adjustment is desirable in 2022 for this vehicle.
5. Nissan Ariya
Here's another one that has been announced for a long time. The Ariya was supposed to debut this year, but add it to the list of victims of Covid-19 and the electronic chip crisis. Nevertheless, it will debut next year, and like the LEAF for Nissan, it promises to be very popular with enthusiasts. Incidentally, the LEAF will be replaced by a small electric SUV at the end of its life cycle; more information to come in this case.
6. Cadillac Lyriq
At Cadillac, the electric shift has been announced for some time, and it promises to be spectacular. It will take its first form next year with the Lyriq. In addition to offering ranges between 500 and 600 kilometers, it will leverage General Motors' Ultium battery technology, as well as a host of advanced technologies, particularly in the area of semi-autonomous driving.
7. Rivian R1S
The Rivian company, which just launched its first electric model with the R1S pickup truck whose production started last month, is coming back with its first SUV, the R1S. This company is very promising and has a bright future, especially due to its agreement with the giant Amazon for the delivery of 100,000 all-electric vans. As for the R1S, like the R1T, it is expected in different forms offering various capacities, all equally impressive, including a maximum range of around 650 km.
8. BMW iX
The i division has been around for a while at BMW and has given us the i3 and i8. We are moving to the next stage in 2022 with the arrival of a new generation of i vehicles, including the i4 sedan, as well as the iX SUV. This vehicle is said to have a range of 475 km and retains BMW's style while at the same time adopting a silhouette that is decidedly futuristic.
9. Audi Q4 e-tron
At Audi, we have been witnessing an electric explosion for some time now and this trend will continue in 2022. There are many expected electric models and several are catching attention. For the purposes of our ranking, let's focus on the Q4 e-tron. Why? Because it promises to be very popular with buyers due to a more attractive price. We're talking about a more luxurious version of the Volkswagen ID.4 with a range of over 400 km.
10. Bollinger B1
In November 2019, at the Los Angeles Auto Show, two monstrous vehicles were displayed in the main hall leading to one of the showrooms, a pickup truck and an SUV that seemed to come from the past. The two models were the B1 and B2 from the Bollinger company, two completely different all-electric models. With 600 horsepower, a range of about 300 km, and the ability to go just about anywhere, this vehicle will appeal to a specific clientele. Its uniqueness makes it interesting and it will be fun to see what kind of career it will have.
