In Quebec, over 43% of our greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions come from transportation. The electrification of transport, including commercial vehicles, is therefore one of the most pressing issues of the day, and represents an effective solution for reducing GHGs. Fortunately, a growing number of companies are looking to make a major shift and electrify their vehicle fleets. As part of the implementation of its Plan for a Green Economy 2030, the Quebec government is offering a number of interesting programs to help finance this transition.

6 subsidy programs for the electrification of commercial vehicles

As an entrepreneur or manager, are you interested in going electric? Find out about the various programs available to help companies finance their switch to commercial electric vehicles.

1 AND 2. THE ROULEZ VERT AND IVEZ PROGRAMS

Companies wishing to equip themselves with electric vehicles are eligible for the same federal and provincial government subsidies as private individuals. The federal government offers a $5,000 subsidy for the purchase or lease of a new electric vehicle through its iVEZ program. For its part, the Quebec government offers a $7,000 subsidy through its Roulez vert program.

Combining the federal and provincial subsidies, we get a total of $12,000 in subsidies for the purchase of an electric car. The rebate applies to each commercial electric vehicle acquired by the company.

3. THE ROULEZ VERT PROGRAM – AT WORK

When equipping yourself with electric vehicles, it’s essential to equip yourself with high-performance charging stations to ensure optimal recharging. Subsidies are available to finance this investment. These cover up to 50% of the cost of purchasing and installing charging stations in the workplace, to a maximum of $5,000 per connector and $5,000 for a wireless charging station. It’s good to know that as of April 2019, employers are no longer required to provide charging service free of charge to their employees. The program applies to any company or business wishing to install charging stations.

4. THE IMHZEV PROGRAM

Since July 2022, Transport Canada has been offering up to $200,000 in subsidies under the new Incentive Program for Medium and Heavy Duty Zero Emission Vehicles (iVMLZE). As a result, the federal government will provide nearly $550 million in financing for the purchase or lease of medium- and heavy-duty vehicles over the next four years. These vehicles will be used to transport goods and services by road. The types of vehicles covered by this program are transport trucks, shuttles, ambulances, vans and tractor trucks in particular.

5. THE TRANSPORTEZ VERT PROGRAM

This program is aimed at companies operating a fleet of light or heavy-duty road vehicles and wishing to acquire rapid direct-current charging stations (BRCC). The program includes 3 components: energy management support, technology acquisition and eco-driving training. Fleet managers can receive up to $100,000 for energy management support, up to $200,000 for the acquisition of certain technologies, and up to $30,000 for eco-driving training for their drivers.

6. THE ECO-TRUCKING PROGRAM

This program is aimed at all companies and organizations and municipalities using one or more heavy or light vehicles for commercial purposes. The program has 4 components: technology acquisition, acquisition of used heavy-duty vehicles, logistics project and collaborative shared electric delivery project. You’ll need to submit your project to determine the amount you’re eligible for.
