Top 5 Affordable Electric Cars

voitures électriques abordables

2021 will see the arrival of many electric vehicles on the market, from various manufacturers, including the Nissan Ariya SUV and the Chevrolet Bolt EUV, which is slightly larger than the renewed Chevrolet Bolt EV.

Ford, Cadillac, GMC, Hyundai, and many other manufacturers will also add electric models to their portfolio in the coming months.

Unfortunately, most of these new products will have relatively high price tags for now. It will take a few more years before prices drop significantly. However, there are still some affordable electric car models on the market, offering more reasonable prices. Here are the top five, from cheapest to most expensive.

Top 5 Affordable Electric Cars

1. Mini Cooper SE – $39,990

Mini cooper SE

The Mini Cooper SE offers all the driving pleasure of a Mini, but without the downsides of a gasoline model. It is available for less than $40,000, which is interesting, especially when considering the discounts available for this model. However, it has a low range, of only 177 km, which is significantly lower than the industry norm.

2. Hyundai Ioniq electric – $41,499

The Hyundai Ioniq Electric had a range of 200 km when it was first introduced to the market. Recently revised, it now offers 274 km, which is better but still not up to the new standards in the category, which are around 400 km.

3. Nissan LEAF – $42,298

Nissan LEAF 2021

The Nissan Leaf is available with different powertrains, which offer different ranges. The base model offers a range of 242 km, which may suffice for those who do not often make long trips. Additionally, this car offers a level of comfort that is truly noteworthy.

4. Kia Soul – $42,895

2019 Soul EV

Kia offers two electric models, the Soul and the Niro SUV. The Soul is the cheaper option, but the difference is not significant enough to justify choosing it over the other model ($44,995). The Soul is for those who like to stand out, and in its electric version, it is the most enjoyable to drive in the family.

5. Chevrolet Bolt EV – $44,600

2020 Chevrolet Bolt EV

The Chevrolet Bolt will receive a facelift later this year, but for now, you can still get the first-generation model that has been with us for a few years. The base configuration is priced under $45,000, making this model, like the others, eligible for provincial rebates of $7,000 and federal rebates of $3,500. Its range of 417 km is more than respectable.
