50 EVs expected in 2024: part five

When you count the number of electric vehicles due to arrive on the market by the end of 2024, you realize that the coming year will be one of transition. It’s a pretty big one, with over 50 new models or versions of existing models expected to hit dealerships.

In order to give you an interesting overview, we’re proposing a series of five dossiers, each presenting around ten electric vehicles, to help you discover what 2024 has in store for us. To keep things simple, we’ll proceed in alphabetical order.

This is the fifth – and final – of these dossiers.

You can now consult the firstsecond, third and fourth  parts of this top 50.

41 — Tesla Model 3

The Tesla Model 3 is not a new model. Along with the Chevrolet Bolt, it’s the oldest affordable electric model with a range of at least 400 km. However, the year 2024 marks the arrival of a slightly redesigned version, which is rarer for Tesla.

On August 31, the company unveiled an updated version that adds high-end features, including a rear-mounted multimedia screen and turn signals that have been moved to the steering wheel. «More sophisticated materials, ventilated seats and customizable ambient lighting» are also on the menu, as is «a more refined and relaxed ride quality, thanks to the combination of a stiffer body and redesigned suspension tuning», according to Tesla.  The more aerodynamic body increases efficiency by 8%.

42 — Tesla Roadster

We’ve been hearing about this one for a while now. In fact, the model was presented in 2017. According to Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s latest promises, we’re looking at a 2024 debut. Let’s bet more on the end of the year, considering that delays are the norm with this company’s promises.

We won’t be talking about an affordable model, though. Tesla initially stated that the price would be US$200,000 in base configuration and US$250,000 for a more limited-run version. Here again, everything is subject to change.

43 — VinFast VF 9

VinFast’s three-row electric SUV, the VF 9, is set to follow the VF 8 into our market in 2024. We’ve seen the model making the rounds at auto shows, and in the company’s plans, it follows the debut of the VF 8 and pre-empts the arrival of the VF 6 and VF 7, which were first shown in 2022 at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

Will VinFast succeed in bringing all these models to our market? Many are still skeptical, as we’ve seen a number of twists and turns with this Vietnamese company. Its ambitions are enormous, however, and it has the backing of the government. Stay tuned!

44 — VinFast VF 6

If VinFast succeeds, it could well be with its two smallest electric SUVs, including the VF 6. This sub-compact model is expected to make its debut towards the end of 2024. It offers 174 hp and an estimated range of some 350 km by our standards (around 420 km in Europe).

45 — VinFast VF 7

When VinFast announced the VF 6, it also simultaneously presented the VF 7. This model is a little larger, and as can be easily understood from the brand’s product nomenclature, it’s positioned between the VF 6 and VF 8. The latter is a little smaller than a Ford Mustang Mach E, which gives you an idea of the format the VF 7 will take on.

This SUV is also expected in late 2024 and 2025, if all goes according to VinFast’s plan. It will be produced in North America at the company’s planned plant in North Carolina, USA.

Another story to follow this year from VinFast!

46 — Volkswagen ID. 4

Here’s another model that won’t be new for 2024, but its presence here is justified, as it will benefit from an upgrade in the first half of 2024. Basically, we expect to find a version offering more range (443 and 410 at the moment, for rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive models, respectively), as well as a revised multimedia system.

47 — Volkswagen ID. Buzz

Of all the electric products expected in 2024, here’s the one that’s likely to make the most waves. The ID. Buzz is the modern electric version of the famous Volkswagen Microbus of the 60s, and when it comes to retro styling, it’s more than a success. The vehicle is simply irresistible. Many enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting its arrival. Its arrival is scheduled for the second half of 2024. The big question will be whether the company can keep up with demand.

48 — Volkswagen ID. 7

Volkswagen will have another model to present to us in 2027, the ID. 7. Yes, a sedan, rather than an SUV. In the format of a Passat, the model will benefit from an 82 kWh battery (like the ID. 4) and offer 170 kW of recharging power. A range approaching 500 km is expected. Above all, those who don’t wish to acquire a utility vehicle will have the refreshing option of going with an electric car.

49 — Volvo EX30

Volvo will introduce two new electric models in 2024, including the EX30, which will become the most powerful vehicle ever offered by the company. Made in China, it is expected to arrive in the first half of next year. Compact in size, it will start at $53,700 in Canada, which is sure to interest many. A Cross Country variant, with all the necessary off-road trappings, should follow.

50 — Volvo EX90

At the other end of the spectrum, the EX90 SUV will offer three rows and plenty of space for passengers and gear. It will initially be offered in a two-motor, all-wheel-drive configuration. Its 111 kWh battery should give it a range of around 500 km. Its 496 hp will ensure smooth, seamless travel. Production is due to start in April, for arrival in the third quarter of 2024.

And that completes our top 50 electric car models expected in 2024. If you haven’t yet discovered models 1 to 10, 11 to 20, 21 to 30 and 31 to 40, this is a must!

So, which is your favorite?
