50 EVs expected in 2024: part three

When you count the number of electric vehicles due to arrive on the market by the end of 2024, you realize that the coming year will be one of transition. It’s a pretty big one, with over 50 new models or versions of existing models expected to hit dealerships.

In order to give you an interesting overview, we’re proposing a series of five dossiers, each presenting around ten electric vehicles, to help you discover what 2024 has in store for us. To keep things simple, we’ll proceed in alphabetical order.

Here’s the third in the series.

You can now consult the first, second, fourth and fifth parts of this top 50.

21 — Jeep Recon

The Jeep Recon was shown by Jeep last year in a virtual presentation that gave us a glimpse of some of the brand’s future electric models. The Recon is an all-terrain vehicle inspired by the Wrangler. It features removable doors and windows for interesting outdoor experiences. And what better way to enjoy the great outdoors than with a quiet vehicle in the middle of nowhere? Production of this model is due to start in 2024, but with the slowdown we’re experiencing due to high electric demand, it remains to be seen.

22 — Jeep Wagoneer S

The Jeep Wagoneer S is a mid-size premium electric SUV. Jeep is aiming for a range of some 650 km with this vehicle, which will deliver up to 600 hp and a 0-97 km/h time of 3.5 seconds. Production of this model is also scheduled for 2024. It will be sold in several markets around the world, including Europe and North America.

23 — Kia EV5

The Kia EV5 is a compact SUV that was unveiled as a concept in early 2023, then revealed a second time in a form closer to production later in the year. Based on the Sportage format, its styling is similar to that of the larger EV9. Its North American debut is scheduled for 2024, as a 2025 model.

24 — Kia EV9

Last April, at the New York Auto Show, Kia presented the EV9 SUV, a mid-size model with three rows of seating. This is the type of vehicle most eagerly awaited by enthusiasts wanting a spacious electric vehicle for their family. We saw the model at the Los Angeles Auto Show last November, and in December, the media launch will take place in Arizona.

So get ready to see this model on the road soon. It will offer a range of around 500 kilometers and interesting recharging capacities thanks to its 800-volt architecture.

25 — Land Rover Range Rover et Range Rover Sport

Land Rover is preparing the arrival of an all-electric version of the regular model, as well as the version known as the Sport. Both will be assembled on the Group’s MLA (Modular Longitudinal Architecture) platform. The electric Range Rover will benefit from a two-motor configuration, with one motor on each axle. Range should be around 500 kilometers.

For the Sport version, we expect to find a model that emphasizes sporty performance, rather than off-road capabilities.

Both models are expected to be available towards the end of 2024.

26 — Lucid Air Sapphire

We’re all familiar with the Air sedan from Lucid Motors. What’s less well known is the Sapphire variant, which joins the range this year. Equipped with three engines, it will deliver a staggering 1234 hp. It will erase the 0-100 km in less than two seconds. With a price tag of US$250,000, it’s unlikely to be too visible on the road.

27 — Lucid Gravity

Also from Lucid, what will mark the coming year for this fledgling company is the debut of the Gravity model, which will happen later in 2024. The model was officially unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto Show last November. Taking advantage of the Air sedan platform, it will offer interesting performance and an estimated range of just over 700 kilometers.

28 — Maserati Gran Turismo

At Maserati, the Gran Turismo coupe, as well as the cabriolet version of the model, should make their debut in all-electric configuration this year. These models are expected to produce 1,200 hp. Electrification could serve to relaunch the brand of Italian origin. Stay tuned.

29 — Mercedes-Benz eSprinter

High-performance cars are all well and good, but electrification isn’t just for that segment. The commercial vehicle niche has a lot to gain from this type of vehicle, whose efficiency for delivery tasks is ideal for contractors.

Mercedes-Benz will be offering an all-electric version of the Sprinter van. The model will initially be offered in Europe with three battery options, and will be offered as a delivery truck, but also as an ambulance. The longest-range version will be available, due to the greater distances to be covered in North America. This will benefit from a 113 kWh battery and offer up to 450 km on the European WLTP cycle. That’s between 20% and 25% less for our market, which means something in the region of 350 km here.

30 — Mini Cooper SE

There’s already an electric version of the Mini Cooper, the SE. Production of this version will come to an end next year, but the model will survive on a new platform. The chip will benefit from different battery configurations, but it remains to be seen what will be reserved for our market. At the very least, we can expect the 54 kWh configuration to offer the longest range, around 300 km, which is better than the current 200 km or so. What will always be there is the driving pleasure offered by this model, undoubtedly one of the great electric surprises of recent years.
